Visas

You will need to obtain and maintain a student visa until the completion of your course. You can obtain visa information from the nearest Australian Embassy or Australian High Commission or local Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) offices.

Student visa applications are assessed based on your country�s level of risk (level 1 being low, level 5 being very high). Each assessment level has differing criteria. This criteria includes financial, English and other requirements.

Am I eligible to study in Australia?

Age

You must be at least 18 years of age to apply to study at EQUALS International. Please check with the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (IMIA) at www.immi.gov.au if you have had multiple visas to stay in Australia as this may affect your eligibility for a new student visa.

Country Assessment Level

Access to a student visa will depend upon the assessment level (AL) of your country of origin. Students from Assessment Level 1 have fewer restrictions when applying for a student visa than students from Level 2 and above. The AL of a country is different in each educational category.

EQUALS International is in the Vocational Education and Training category (subclass 572). A list of country assessment levels pertaining to subclass 572 is available on the DIMA website

English language and package programs

Studies are conducted in English. If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 5.5 academic or higher.

If you do not yet have the required English level, make sure you apply to EQUALS International well before the starting date of the course you wish to study. You will need to join a package program with English as your preliminary course and one of our visa accredited programs as your primary course of study. You will need an eCoE (electronic Confirmation of Enrolment) from both Colleges and will be issued with one visa for the combined length of both courses.

Your Student Visa and Academic Responsibilities

To retain your student visa you must be enrolled in a full-time registered course at EQUALS International. The College expects students to attend all timetabled classes. EQUALS is required to report to DIMA details of students who do not attend classes on a regular basis.

Your student visa regulations require students to make satisfactory academic progress during their study. Visa regulations stipulate that you cannot repeat any one subject more than once.

Once you have acquired permanent accommodation to start your studies, you must notify EQUALS International immediately of your new address. If you change your address at any time you must inform the College within 7 days. You can either change your address by Calling the International Student Liaison Officer or informing Administration, to change your details.

Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment

Once EQUALS has issued you with an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) and you have obtained your student visa, DIMA regulations state that you cannot change your study by moving to another institution in the first year of study. After the first year of study, you can then change your study provider if you wish. However, you must make sure that your new provider has issued you with a new eCoE to ensure that your student visa does not get cancelled.

Financial Responsibilities

You must ensure tuition fees are paid prior to the commencement of each term. It is up to you to make sure your account remains paid.
